The 2008 TIME 100 Finalists
Read about the leaders, artists, enterpreneurs and thinkers who, in your opinion, deserve a spot on this year's TIME 100 Scott Brown and Michelle Kung
AGE: 80
OCCUPATION: Pope
NUMBER OF TIME COVERS: 2
PREVIOUS APPEARANCES ON THE TIME 100: 2
PRO: After three years on the job, the former Joseph Alois Ratzinger, continues to drive home his message of ending injustice, hatred, and violence around the world, including Tibet and the Middle East.
CON: It's not going well. Osama bin Laden made a (bigger) target of Benedict in a recent bulletin, and comments he made implying Islam is inherently violent continue to haunt him years later. His conversion of a high-profile Muslim newspaper editor probably hasn't helped matters. And the Vatican's updated set of commandments thou shalt not pollute, grow excessively rich, manipulate genes, etc. is being as roundly ignored as the original.
