PRO: As There Will Be Blood's atavistic American grotesque oilman Daniel Plainview, the intense, famously immersed Oscar winner reminded us that fine acting can also be a bloody contact sport.

CON: Ringtone syndrome. Day-Lewis' performance might be overshadowed for posterity by its spotlight riff: "I... drink... your... milkshake!" Which might go down as a successor to "Say hello to my leeeeel frien'!"
