PRO: After being passed over for the big chair initially, Gibson plunged into the breach after the departures of Bob Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargas, and promptly started beating NBC's Brian Williams.

CON: He and Williams are now neck-and-neck. Moderating a Republican debate in January, he proclaimed: "The less of a moderator, the better," in contrast to NBC's attack-badger, Tim Russert. Some felt he then went on to lose control of the debate.
