The 2008 TIME 100 Finalists
Read about the leaders, artists, enterpreneurs and thinkers who, in your opinion, deserve a spot on this year's TIME 100 Scott Brown and Michelle Kung
AGE: 49
OCCUPATION: CEO of Avon Products Co.
NUMBER OF TIME COVERS: 0
PREVIOUS APPEARANCES ON THE TIME 100: 0
PRO: Bouncing back from a stock collapse in 2005, Jung came roaring back, pushing the company to new highs with gains in the Chinese market and continued growth in Russia and Eastern Europe. Empowerment and anticancer campaigns have shored up the brand as an all-purpose pro-woman emblem. As for the impending recession, it shouldn't bother Jung: she weathered the last one by absorbing laid-off workers into her "Avon lady" sales force. So expect to see your Bear Stearns broker at the door, bearing mascara.
CON: Avon still isn't the hippest makeup brand: for young women, it's hard to shake that age-old image of the Avon lady.
