The latest obsession of chef David Burke is pink Himalayan rock salt. He uses it as a seasoning, but he has also repurposed it as a building material. "Architecturally, it's gorgeous," says Burke, who constructed a hostess stand out of it at his restaurant in the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. Home cooks who aren't up for a kitchen renovation can order the salt by the pound ($18) and grate it over a piece of fish. davidburke.comKate Novack
