"Zegna is a fantastic woven-goods company with fantastic mills," says architect Peter Marino, who has redesigned the Italian menswear giant's Fifth Avenue store. Marino, who took the woven-goods history of Zegna as a talisman for his design, used vertical lines and material mixes to replicate the kind of energy he had witnessed at the brand's mills in northern Italy. "Men's-suit stores tend to be static," Marino says. This one is anything but, with patterns in the marble-and-granite floor replicating the woof and warp of looms and the yellow stripe of wood recalling the selvage of a piece of fabric.
