Scott Hoch missed a four-foot par putt on the 17th hole during the final round, giving up his one stroke lead to Nick Faldo. Then, in the first hole of a playoff with Faldo, he had a 30-inch gimmie that would have clinched him the win. He circled the ball and examined the angles: "Jeez, just hit it. I don't want to see any more golf shots today," crowed Ben Crenshaw in the clubhouse. Hoch's putt rolled right by the hole. "Like my dad says, 'Good Godal-mighty," said a stunned Crenshaw. Faldo birdied the next hole to take the Green Jacket. "I'm glad I don't carry a gun with me," said Hoch after the playoff.
