The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute — Williamstown, Mass.
Opens June 22

The Clark is one of America's greatest medium-size museums. Its collection of European and American art, with an emphasis on the Impressionists (and a superb Piero della Francesca) is choice. Its setting, on 140 mountain acres, is superb. Now as part of a two-phase expansion, this summer it will open a new 32,000 sq. ft. multi-use facility by Tadao Ando, the Japanese architect who is the poet of bare concrete. His Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is one of the most sublime new museums in the U.S. If you can get those results on the flat plains of Texas, just think what he can do with the Berkshires as a backdrop.
