#10. Syria's Iraqi Refugee Crisis

Nov. 19: The government of Iraq reports that refugees are returning at a rate of 1,000 a day from Syria, as a result of improved security conditions. But only two months earlier, they were arriving in Syria at a rate of 2,000 a day to join more than 1.5 million Iraqis already there. Some suggested that the return was based on the inability of the refugees to support themselves in Syria — very few of the approximately 750,000 refugees have returned from Jordan, the preferred destination of wealthier Iraqis.
