2. Hair

Restaged in Central Park for a few glorious weeks last summer (and headed for Broadway in March), the legendary "tribal rock" musical has finally been rescued from the mists of '60s nostalgia. Director Diane Paulus and a terrific cast channeled the revolutionary spirit of the James Rado and Gerome Ragni show, and showcased Galt MacDermot's amazingly inventive and melodic score even more winningly than in the original. The Age of Aquarius may be over, but the stars are finally back in alignment for Hair.
