A Brief History of Microphone Gaffes
The Reverend Jesse Jackson might be the latest public figure to forget about his mic, but he's certainly not the first. Here, TIME presents the top 10 most memorable microphone gaffes.

It's not always the interviewee who gets burned by a hot mic. In 2006, CNN anchor Kyra Phillips forgot to turn her mic off during President George W. Bush's address on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. As Bush spoke about the city's progress, viewers also heard Phillips gossiping about relationships and men: "Brothers have to be protective. Except for mine. I've got to be protective of him ... his wife is just a control freak." CNN issued an apology to the White House.
