The New Jersey Senator took bribes from FBI agents posing as wealthy Arab businessmen in a sting operation and was indicted in 1980. Williams resigned in 1982 prior to a Senate vote on his expulsion and served 21 months in federal prison on bribery and conspiracy charges.
