47 Things to See, Hear, and Do This Fall

In the months after 9/11, Robert DeNiro helped bring life back to lower Manhattan by starting the now thriving Tribeca Film Festival. Three years after Hurricane Katrina, the art world is doing something similar in the Crescent City. "Prospect.1 New Orleans," a new biennial of international art, will launch there in November and run for 11 weeks. Headed by Dan Cameron, director of visual arts at the city's Contemporary Arts Center, the exhibition will put the work of 81 artists from more than 30 countries in venues around town, all of them free. The roster of stars includes Cai Guo-Qiang, William Kentridge and Julie Mehretu, so there's a good chance you'll be blown away by something.
