50 Authentic American Experiences
Here you'll find 50 picks one for each state of unique places, activities and events that you might not have considered the last time you traveled
Want a lethal case of real-estate envy? Head to Niihau Island, a 72-square-mile hunk of rock in the Hawaiian chain that's privately owned. The island was once open only to invited guests, but recently, the unwashed (read: you) have been given the opportunity to spend a few hours on its pristine shores. Just 200 natives live on the island (they speak Hawaiian and survive virtually technology-free). Their only neighbors are a healthy wild boar and sheep population. You'll be airlifted in by helicopter and left to laze about on the white sands with sunning monk seals. You can also spend time swimming or snorkeling before it's time to be helicoptered back to a place where they've heard of Starbucks.
