It's always odd when someone as laconic as Stanton, who appeared ancient even as a young man, is tapped to emcee (and ideally bring a spark of life) to Saturday Night Live. And why, you may ask, did SNL's producers invite Stanton on? The episode coincided with his role as Molly Ringwald's father in Pretty in Pink.
