Oh, Admiral. As if his opening line during the 1992 debate with Al Gore and Dan Quayle wasn't bad enough, the Vietnam War hero solicited even more unintended laughs when he finally managed to get a question from moderator Al Bruno of ABC, who asked about the "personal negative attacks" coming from each campaign. "You know, I didn't have my hearing aid turned on," Stockdale replied, "Tell me again." Given Gore and Quayle's angry bickering that night, Bruno later said he nearly blurted out, "You may be the luckiest man in America."
