In a jab against John Edwards' excessive absences from Senate committees, Vice President Cheney claimed during the 2004 VP debate that "the first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight." Unfortunately, he said this in the age of the Internet, and critics soon provided articles and videos testifying to the contrary. (Witness Cheney's 2001 National Prayer Breakfast speech, in which he thanked Edwards by name).
