Ever notice how movies almost always make the Central Intelligency the bad guy? Ridley Scott's new Body of Lies is no different. TIME looks back at some of the most memorable flicks starring the secretive organization.
Tom Hanks plays Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson who, as the gussied-up Julia Roberts puts it, sat at the "intersection of the State Department, the Pentagon, and the CIA the three agencies you would need to conduct a covert war." And so he does.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman's a treat here as the dissolute, grimy, hotheaded CIA officer who provides some of the film's most lively moments. Sometimes it seems like he's in a different movie altogether.
