Oliver Stone's biopic, Nixon, portrayed Tricky Dick as an alcoholic, power-obsessed (yet sometimes sympathetic) character. The press would all agree that Nixon was a fabulously complex, if unpleasant, character, and the President's consistent disdain for the media — spanning days from his candidacy for governor of California to the Watergate scandal — provided much of the film's best fodder. Despite a poor showing at the box office, Nixon was nominated for 4 Oscars.
