Top 10 Teen Idols
High School Musical 3: Senior Year comes out Oct. 24, and it's only a matter of time before Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron become the next Joanie and Chachi. But the list of adolescent dreamboats is a long one, and the HSM kids have big, socially awkward shoes to fill. TIME takes a look at the top 10 teen idols of all time.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year comes out Oct. 24, and it's only a matter of time before Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron become the next Joanie and Chachi. But the list of adolescent dreamboats is a long one, and the HSM kids have big, socially awkward shoes to fill. Like those of Jonathan Brandis, whose era of stardom was brief, but for those of us born in the 1980s highly influential. The blond-haired, baby-faced actor had a string of minor hits such as The NeverEnding Story II, Ladybugs (with Rodney Dangerfield), and the futuristic television show SeaQuest DSV, but his regular appearances in teen magazines cemented his status as a junior high locker pinup from 1989 to 1996.
