Who's got the best record of predicting election results? Forget the pundits. TIME takes a look at 10 strange (but sometimes true) presidential election predictors

Every presidential election year since 1992, Family Circle magazine runs a cookie recipe contest between the two potential First Ladies. (With the Democratic primary contest dragging on, Bill Clinton was eligible to enter this year as a third contestant.) The winner of the contest for the past four elections has gone on to be (or continued to be) the First Lady. This year, Cindy McCain's Oatmeal-Butterscotch cookies beat out Michelle Obama's shortbread cookies, although there's a flag on the play: Cindy allegedly plagiarized her recipe from elsewhere twice.
