Pro: The widower of assassinated ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto won the Pakistani presidency this year, and has vowed to fight al-Qaeda terrorists hiding out in the mountainous border region. Has sent a strong message that U.S. missile attacks on insurgents in flaming anti-American sentiment.

Con: Since he took over, terrorism has spiraled out of control. The September bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad was the biggest explosion in the country's history, killing more than 50 people.
