President Clinton's energy guru, a former utility company executive, endured a stormy tenure. She flitted around the globe on lavish trips, and drew criticism for failing to account for her substantial expenditures. To the chagrin of Clinton, O'Leary was also the target of a probe examining whether she agreed to meet with Chinese officials in exchange for a $25,000 donation to her favorite charity. She was cleared of wrongdoing by former Attorney General Janet Reno, but the damage was done.
