Top 10 Places to Find the Most Holiday Cheer
Ten great getaways to drum up the holiday spirit
Strolling into the marbled foyers of the Newport mansions, you feel a bit like Annie when she first wandered into Daddy Warbucks' place and the effect is only more stunning around the holidays when the marvelous homes brim with lavish decorations, Christmas trees drip with intricate ornaments and poinsettias overflow from seemingly every nook. Three mansions the Breakers, the Elms and the Marble House are open for tours from Nov. 15 to Jan. 4; a pass to all three costs $25 for adults. On select evenings from Nov. 22 to Dec. 27, holiday concerts take place at the Breakers, and on Dec. 20 a joint tour of the Marble House and the Elms is combined with live choral performances. Evening events cost $25, if booked in advance.
