Technically, the Police never broke up. Wracked by internal strife and a stressful touring schedule, the pioneering new wave group simply stopped performing and recording together in 1984. But as with many big acts, fans wouldn't say goodbye. In time for the 30th anniversary of their first single, "Roxanne," Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland reunited for a tour in 2007. Much like the unofficial end years earlier, the group never made an official announcement about the new tour; instead, it opened its first gig post-reunion — a performance at the 2007 Grammy Awards — with the passionate declaration, "We're the Police, and we're back!"
