Winner: 12-year-old George Abraham Thampy of St. Louis, Mo. Thampy, who is home-schooled, donated the $10,000 prize to his parents. He also reportedly devised his own phonetic guide for tens of thousands of words; his mother, a non–native English speaker from India, quizzed him.
