Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Henry VIII
In honor of the 500th anniverary of King Henry VIII's coronation on June 24, 1509, TIME found 10 interesting tales about the famous monarch.

Henry VIII was known to self-medicate. The king had a book of prescriptions for treating his own ailments, and even concocted some of his own remedies. In the book, on display at the British Museum, a prescription for the treatment of ulcers reads, "An Oyntment devised by the kinges Majesty made at Westminster. And devised at Grenwich to take away inflammations and to cease payne and heale ulcers called gray plaster."
