Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Henry VIII
In honor of the 500th anniverary of King Henry VIII's coronation on June 24, 1509, TIME found 10 interesting tales about the famous monarch.
Henry's fear of disease mostly the plague was so great that he periodically bolted in order to avoid sickness. During the fall of 1517 and the summer of 1528 Henry fearful of catching the plague spent weeks in isolation. When the plague was at its peak, court business stopped entirely; it was only in rare years that the disease did not affect his plans at all.
