History tells us that supergroups are rarely super, let alone groups. But the members of Monsters of Folk — My Morning Jacket's Jim James, M. Ward and Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis — spent five years together writing songs and crafting the rich harmonies on their debut album, becoming a real band in the process. Of course, Monsters of Folk sounds a lot more like rock than folk, but let's worry about living up to one billing at a time.
