7. How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
I've loved this series since it began with How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? The premise reminds me of the Highlights feature "Goofus and Gallant": polite child, recalcitrant child. But here, both sides are rolled up into one child er, dinosaur. Says Mom: "Out in the sandbox you threw lots of sand. You ran from the slide, after slapping my hand." Her accompanying expression seems to say, "I'm rethinking this whole parenthood thing." But when Dino's alter ego appears, so does Mom's, as she purrs, "But you suddenly turned with a smile I adore. Oh, I'll always love you, my dinosaur."
