The Top Films of 2009, if Film Critics Ran the Oscars
It's that magical time of year when film critics convene to vote for their favorite actors, directors and movies. Academy voters, take note
George Clooney, Up in the Air (8.5)
Colin Firth, A Single Man (4)
Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker (3.5)
Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart (2)
Nicolas Cage, The Bad Lieutenant Port of Call: New Orleans (1)
Viggo Mortensen, The Road (1)
Morgan Freeman, Invictus (0.5)
Michael Stuhlbarg, A Serious Man (0.5)
In the critics' tally, Mr. Cool Hollywood Dude more than doubled the tally of his nearest rival. He should do just as handsomely with Academy members. The estimable Firth will be nominated, along with the much admired, well-liked Bridges. After that, it's your guess. Renner? Freeman?
