Top 10 Roller Coasters
Since the world's first full-circuit roller coaster opened 125 years ago at Coney Island, New York, on Jan. 20, 1885, the rides have gotten much faster and heart-in-your-throat scarier
Nemesis was the world's first inverted roller coaster when it opened in 1994 at the Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire, England. According to the ride's legend, the coaster was created when a monster was supposedly disturbed during routine maintenance work, causing it to wreak havoc. Authorities used 250 tons of steel to try to pin the monster down, but it got all twisted as the monster squirmed, creating the ride as it appears today. Another fun fact: in 2004, 32 people rode Nemesis naked, a world record. Hold onto your hats? Hardly.
