Top 10 Notorious Fugitives
On June 22, 2011, 16 years after he went on the run, the FBI finally arrested the alleged Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger. TIME takes a look at other infamous fugitives
The FBI has granted 494 fugitives most-wanted status. Thomas James Holden was the first. Holden's storied past as a gangster included robbery and prison breaks in the 1920s and '30s (he was recaptured on a golf course in Kansas City, Mo.), but he was placed on the list in 1950 for murdering his wife and her two brothers in Chicago. Holden was caught in Oregon in 1951 and died in prison.
