At this time a year ago, Zucker was preparing to remake NBC by putting Jay Leno in prime time and Conan O'Brien in late night, and now — well, Leno's back in late night and NBC has been remade as a lower-rated network. But Zucker's Leno gamble — like NBC's looming sale to Comcast — shook up the TV business as the networks tried to manage a period of decline, and it gave late-night hosts on every network more material than they could have dreamed of.
