I'd begin my dream day with a walk up Lion's Head mountain before the sun is high in the sky.

Lazari in Vredehoek, tel: (27-21) 461 9865, is a great breakfast venue with pretty sweet Xhosa chefs preparing the meals in plain sight. The staff are humble and the food delicious. Next, I would head to Cape Town's famous Long Street. Freshlyground's recording studio is located at No. 210. It's where our dreams materialize and our thoughts are heard. We recorded our latest album Radio Africa there earlier this year. It is also where we spend about five hours a day rehearsing, brainstorming, doing interviews or just hanging out. Lunch is at Crush, tel: (27-21) 422 5533, in St. George's Mall. The food is great and you get to rub shoulders with all kinds of South Africans — so wonderfully rich with color, music and great vibes! Afterward, I'd take a walk, chat to street vendors and look for jewelry bargains on Church Street, then head back to Long Street. I often stop by the African Music Store, africanmusicstore.co.za, to stock up on excellent music. I'd end my day with a sunset dip at one of the Clifton beaches with a bottle of wine from the Haute Cabrière farm, tel: (27-21) 876 3688, and some good friends. What a beautiful day!

I live under Table Mountain, overlooking the city and harbor, so I'd start the day with a run along the trails there. After making myself and my girlfriend a full English breakfast, I'd drive south on the M3 to Chart Farm in Wynberg, tel: (27-21) 761 0434, where you can literally stop and smell the roses (as well as pick your own bunch). Then I would take Ou Kaapse Weg (meaning Old Cape Way) to Noordhoek for lunch at Monkey Valley Resort, tel: (27-21) 789 1391. Later, I'd head to Cape Point for tea before going north along Chapman's Peak, stopping somewhere to meditate and look at the amazing view. Then it's through Camps Bay to Clifton Second Beach, where I'd hook up with friends, play volleyball and have a picnic at dusk.

My perfect day begins waking up at home with the person I love most in the world, my wife. The Eucharist is at St. George's Cathedral, where I once worked and from where we marched in the apartheid era in our tens of thousands to demand justice. Morning coffee is taken with friends, though these days I tend to drink the Cape's own rooibos tea.

I then might head for the Philani Nutrition Centre in Khayelitsha, the township to the east of the city. It feeds malnourished children while teaching their mothers to sew and weave and print. The fruits of their labor, including stunning woven carpets with Cape Town themes, are sold to tourists at the center's shop.

On the way home, I stop for takeaway peri-peri chicken at Nando's to surprise Mrs. Tutu for lunch. We're watching the South African soccer team Bafana Bafana this afternoon; she's cooking supper.
