10. A Soldier's Final Resting Place

A year after the U.S. lifted the ban on media coverage of the return of dead service members Photographer Peter van Agtmael traced the final journey of William "Seth" Ricketts, 27, who was killed by small arms fire in a contested area of western Afghanistan. Ricketts' body was carried to mMississippi, where it was laid to rest in a cemetery in Corinth. In the photo above, Ricketts' son Aiden posed for his grandmother next to his father's gravestone.
