As they read "Changing of the Guard" on page 40, ask students to look for these
words and to define each one using clues provided by the context of the
article. Then assign the questions below.
1. What political values do King Hussein and Crown Prince Hassan share? In what
ways are the brothers disparate as individuals?
2. How has Prince Hassan reacted to the obstinacy of the Israeli government
toward the Palestinians?
3. If Hassan becomes king, do you predict that he will be a benevolent ruler?
