The Field of Players
What's the best portable music device for you? Herewith, a shopping guide to five different kinds of MP3 players

1. Flash-Memory Player
The spirit of the original Diamond Rio lives on: many hardware makers offer 64MB flash players for under $100 and 128MB players for under $200. You may only get up to two hours of high-quality compressed audio, but these devices are the smallest on the market, and will continue to be for a long time. The newest neato configuration is the "USB keychain" design, first seen with Creative's MuVo, and coming this summer in the Philips Key Ring. For those who want a player to train with, designs such as the RioSPORT S35S or the Nike-Philips PSA Play line are also popular, since flash players have no moving parts and are, by nature, skip free.
