Apple 17-in. eMac
Apple has long targeted the education market, and its computers have been in classrooms longer than most high-school seniors have been alive. In a show of dedication, the normally high-priced company lets students, faculty members, and parents of students log on to the online Apple Store through apple.com/education, awarding substantial discounts on certain products provided applicants identify their academic institution, from Kindergarten through graduate school. (Have a look your school is probably there.) If you qualify, you can get our pick a 1GHz G4 eMac with CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, a 17-in. screen, integrated speakers and OS X featuring iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes for just $849. That's pretty hard to beat.
