Kensington SaddleBag Sport Notebook Backpack
How much? $70

KENSINGTON

Your notebook computer will be well-protected inside the Kensington SaddleBag Sport, $70. The interior sleeves are well-padded, including a layer of foam lining the waterproof bottom, and there's plenty of extra room for books, papers and other school materials. The bag fits notebooks with 15-in. to 17-in. screens, and, even fully packed, is surprisingly comfortable to carry.

For more compact machines, consider the Sumdex MT Speed Pac. It's double the price ($140) but the construction looks finer and feels tighter. Designed for notebooks with up to 14.1-in. screens, it too has separate compartments to help keep you organized while providing a cocoon you need for your computer. The company's trademarked SensaTech foam absorbs and redistributes pressure from bumps and drops.

Co-eds in search of a sleeker, more sophisticated look should check out the Nicole Modern Backpack, $80, part of the Sumdex She Rules line of laptop carriers. The nylon case is water-repellent and the little blue safety light with matte nickel finish and leather trim is a lovely touch.
