Polish scouts leave the former Nazi death camp Auschwitz. on Thursday, joining some 10,000 people on the annual “March of the Living” from Auschwitz to the neighboring camp of Birkenau. The marchers were addressed by Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, who urged them to remember that the world had stood by silently while 6 million Jews were murdered. The inscription above the gate reads "Arbeit macht frei" (“Labor will set you free”)
