WHERE DOES PEPPER COME FROM? by Brigitte Raab, illustrated by Manuela Olten
The first answer to each of this book's questions is facetious. Why do bears hibernate in winter? Because they can't find winter coats big enough to fit them. No! exclaims one of a gallery of youngsters that Olten renders in a variety of amusing tones and 'tudes. Then the following page provides the real answer. Little readers will have such a good time joining in on the repeated joke that they'll hardly notice how much they're learning. Watch out for the final question: the funny answer is also the real one.
