UNIVERSAL
THE GOOD SHEPHERD
The scions of the old WASP establishment refine their habits of arrogance, secrecy and genteel homoeroticism in Yale's Skull and Bones society, then go on to found the OSS, which morphs into the CIA, which, in turn, masterminds the Bay of Pigs disaster. That's as far as screenwriter Eric Roth and director Robert De Niro take their story. They leave the consequences of the gentlemen spies' ineptitude to our imaginations, But this dark, moody, tight-lipped movie, wonderfully acted by Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie among others, authoritatively introduces us to a secret, yet weirdly bureaucratized, world with hypnotizing effect.
