CRICKET CONTROVERSY
Sure, Zidane's World Cup blowup sparked worldwide outrage and debate, but leave it to cricket for true international intrigue. During a match between Pakistan and England this summer at The Oval in London, an umpire ruled that the Pakistani team had tampered with the ball, and awarded England five penalty runs. After the traditional tea break, the Pakistani players refused to take the field in protest, and England was declared winner via forfeit, the first ever in a match between two countries. An International Cricket Council investigation actually cleared Pakistan of ball tampering in the "Oval-gate" scandal, but admonished the team for refusing to take the field.
