Reader Responses: The Falun Gong

The only problem with Falun Gong is that it's getting way too much attention. With a little attention comes a need for more, and some member of the organization may do something violent that could be considered "cult-like." However, it is mainly a spiritual group composed of many peaceful people, including many from the high ranking communist party.

It is unfortunate that there are always two versions of the truth. The Chinese Communist Party and the Falun Gong should reach a peaceful compromise. If these two groups are really what they say (a government for the people and a religion for the people), than a compromise should not be that difficult of a process

I think we all know who the "Evil Cult" really is, the brutal and inhumane Chinese government!

The Falun Gong should be allowed back into mainland China. It should be allowed to function properly. Not only will this help better China's human rights record, but it will also give them a better chance of gaining the 2008 Olympics.

I read excerpts of the Falun Gong preachings and found it essentially to be in the same class of cults that perpetrated the events at Jonestown (The People's Temple), Waco (Branch Davidian), and Rancho Santa Fe (Heaven's Gate), but with much less spiritual content.

If anyone in the west told you that he was the agent of the Buddha or Jesus Christ and that he will protect you from accidents and diseases, it would prompt a call for his head to be examined. But in the case of Li Hongzhi, it may be easier to do a thorough examination of his bank account.

In the long history of China, such cults have been catalysts for social uppheaval. Though CCP is also evil, Falun is even worse than CCP.

Its leader Mr. Li has uttered all kinds of nonsense about this latest fad to a gullible world. Imagine this guy can fly - so he claims. A cult is a religious movement that is so dominated by a self-centered, irresponsible leader that its followers will end up in untimely, tragic deaths. Examples abound like the Jonestown incident, etc.

I think Falun Gong is a spiritual movement and the Commies in China should learn that people have the right to think whatever they want, and not be threatened by Communist dictators. Communist ideology is extremely outdated and the dictators in Beijing will understand that one day.

It is sad to see our government support the Falun Gong. In the USA, everyone has freedom to choose his religion. However, Falun Gong is not a religion. The guy pushed his inventive "religion" because he wants to make money.

An evil cult. Li Hongzhi doesn't have supernatural powers. If he has, he would show and distribute video tapes and VCDs of him flying. Only Jesus could do that. Li Hongzhi is crap

Don't be fooled by this evil, politically-driven leader, Li Hongzhi. Nobody could fly and have a 'third-eye'. The US should sent this fool back to China.
