Her Majesty's a Pretty Nice Girl . . .
LONDON: Not only is Paul not dead, he is about to be knighted. Paul McCartney will soon become Sir Paul. The former Beatle will be among the 1,035 honored at a Buckingham palace ceremony next summer. Thirty years ago, when the Beatles were made Members of the Order of the British Empire, insulted Brits returned their own honors to Queen Elizabeth II to protest what they called the system's devaluation. Today, the awards are given to any number of ordinary people who have made significant contributions, such as traffic warden Evelyn Greechan, who bravely booked her local police chief. Greechan won a MBE for services to road safety. No word on whether McCartney might grace the ceremony with a performance of the ditty on Abbey Road that may just have put him over the top for this honor: “Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl, but she doesn’t have a lot to say. Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl, but she changes from day to day. I want to tell her that I love her a lot, but I gotta get a bellyful of wine. Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl, some day I’m gonna make her mine, oh yeah, some day I’m gonna make her mine.” Stand, Sir Paul.
