Etna's wrath: Sicily's Mount Etna spewed lava and volcanic ash for days on end this summer in what residents described as the worst eruption in living memory. Italian authorities managed to stop the lava destroying nearby towns, but scientists took the eruption as a further sign that Europe's most active volcano is becoming increasingly violent, threatening future tragedies.
