After a four-year battle with cancer, George Harrison surrendered to a death he did not fear. Surrounded by family and friends, the "quiet Beatle" died at a friend's home in Los Angeles on November 29th. Harrison's death sparked mourning reminiscent of a day 20 years ago when his former band-mate John Lennon was gunned down in New York City. Harrison, who loathed celebrity but loved music, was a gifted guitarist; his experimentation with the 12-string and the sitar was evident not only in the Beatles' later music, but in Harrison's solo work and collaborations.
