Americans seemed to rediscover their love for their flag in the days and
weeks after Sept. 11 as the nation burst out in a show of patriotism not
seen since WWII. Stores sold out of them; newspapers printed pull-out
versions; businesses made the red, white and blue part of every window
display. On t-shirts and lapels, on bridges and over doorways, America's
grand old flag suddenly became its most ubiquitous decoration and its
renewed symbol of unity. |
